KallistiOS: Toolchain Setup - OS X

Toolchain Setup - OS X

Setting up a toolchain for use with KallistiOS is a relatively straightforward task on Apple's OS X. For starters, install the latest version of Xcode that is available for the version of OS X you are using. For Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), you will need Xcode 3.1.4. For Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) look for Xcode 3.2.6 (Xcode 4.0.x was available for Snow Leopard but was not free and has been removed from the Mac App Store since then). For Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), look for Xcode 4.6.3. For OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and 10.9 (Mavericks), install the latest version available from the Mac App Store, which is 5.1 as of this writing. Be sure to install the command line utilities along with Xcode. For earlier versions, this is an option in the installer. For newer versions, you will have to do so inside Xcode itself.

Once you have Xcode installed, decide whether you want to use a release version of KOS (the latest is 2.0.0 as of this writing) or the current development version in the git repository. Both should be relatively stable, but if you're working on a project long-term, you may want to stick with a release version. Sometimes things change in the git repository that will break older code. ;-) If you wish to use the development version hosted in the Git repository, ensure that you have git installed on your machine. If you are using Xcode 4.x or newer, git should already be installed (although you might want to update it regardless). If you are on a PowerPC Mac (i.e, a machine from before 2005), you can find builds of Git here. If you are on an Intel-based Mac (most likely), then you will want to look either here for
